Northern Qi

The Northern Qi (550–577) distilled the Buddha into white marble: slim silhouettes, robes incised with sutras, and the quiet inward smile first unearthed at Qingzhou. Cinnabar and teal pigment still clings to the stone. Read the story in Heritage Journal.
